STEP 1: Open Perplexity and Set Your Search Parameters

Go to perplexity.ai in your web browser. (If you don't have an account, click "Sign Up" in the top right corner; a free account works perfectly for this).

Locate the main search bar in the center of the screen that says "Ask anything...".

Look inside the text box at the bottom left for the "Focus" button (it looks like a small slider or target icon). Click it and select "Web". This ensures the AI pulls the most up-to-date information from across the internet.

If you have a Pro account, make sure the "Pro" toggle switch (at the right end of the search bar) is clicked ON (it will turn blue).

STEP 2: Paste Your "Expert Analyst" Prompt

Now click directly on atext box. Copy the following text exactly as it is:

• "Act as an expert market analyst. I need a comprehensive, up-to-date market research report on [INSERT YOUR INDUSTRY/PRODUCT HERE]. Please include: 1. Current market size and projected growth, 2. Top 3 competitors and their biggest weaknesses, 3. Emerging consumer trends from the last 6 months, and 4. The biggest barriers to entry."

Paste the prompt and replace the bracketed [INSERT...] section with your specific niche (e.g., the organic dog food market in the US).

Once you’re ready, click on the blue arrow button on the right side of the text box (or hit Enter) to run the search.

STEP 3: Expand the Report with Real-Time Follow-Ups

Wait about 10-15 seconds. Perplexity will scour live websites, news, and reports to generate your custom analysis, complete with footnote citations.

Scroll down to the very bottom of the generated response.

Look for the section titled "Related". Perplexity will automatically suggest 3 to 4 highly specific follow-up questions based on your niche (e.g., "What are the average profit margins for organic dog food?").

Click the plus icon (+) next to the most relevant question. The AI will immediately research that specific question and add the new data to your ongoing report.

STEP 4: Export and Save Your Final Report

Once you have all the data you need, scroll to the bottom of the best response.

Find the "Copy" icon (it looks like two overlapping squares or clipboards). Click it, and a small checkmark will appear to confirm it has been copied.

Then open a blank Google Doc, Microsoft Word document, or Notion page and paste the text (Ctrl+V on Windows or Cmd+V on Mac).
