AI BREAKTHROUGH

Tencent and Tsinghua University just unveiled CALM (Continuous Autoregressive Language Models), a radical new AI framework that replaces the “next-token” prediction paradigm used by every LLM today. Instead of generating one word at a time, CALM predicts continuous vectors that represent entire ideas, letting the model think conceptually rather than linguistically.

  • 4× fewer prediction steps (each vector ≈ 4 tokens)

  • 44% less training compute

  • Continuous reasoning, no discrete vocabulary

  • Introduces BrierLM, a new metric replacing perplexity

  • Uses an energy-based transformer, no softmax, no token sampling

This could mark the beginning of the end for traditional token-based models like GPT and Gemini. CALM doesn’t “speak” in words, it streams thoughts. If it scales, it could make today’s LLMs look like relics of the Morse code era.

In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to create in-depth, citation-backed research reports and collaborate with AI in real time to organize your findings into structured, publication-ready documents.

STEP 1: Generate a Research Report

Go to STORM and sign in with your account. Once logged in, you’ll see a clean dashboard with a dropdown menu at the top labeled “STORM.”

This is where you can switch between:

  • STORM: for full-length research reports

  • Co-STORM: for real-time collaboration with the AI

STEP 2: Generate a Research Report

In STORM mode, you’ll see a text box that says “Enter a topic”

Type in your research query, for example: “Smart agriculture practices”

Hit Enter, and STORM will begin scanning academic databases, trusted web sources, and papers.

Within minutes, you’ll get a well-structured research report with:

  • A clear table of contents

  • Sectioned summaries for each subtopic

  • Citations and references for every claim

  • A downloadable PDF option

STEP 3: Collaborate in Co-STORM

Smart agriculture practicesSwitch to Co-STORM mode from the dropdown.

Here, you can chat with the AI as it researches. Ask things like:

  • “Add a section comparing AI regulations in the US and EU.”

  • “Show me a visual breakdown of research sources.”

Co-STORM will then generate a real-time mind map, visually organizing your research by topic, subtopic, and supporting evidence.

You can even click on nodes to expand sections, edit summaries, or request deeper insights on specific points.

STEP 4: Export or Continue Research

Once you’re happy with the content, click “PDF” icon at the bottom right corner, to download a PDF or continue refining your research live in Co-STORM.


The mind map and report remain saved in your workspace, so you can return anytime and build upon it.
